WRITING TIPS & SAMPLES
As we are constantly researching resources for our users, by popular demand, we are posting here sample letters, which you can customize to fit your specif circumstances and needs. These samples are downloadable shared files in "jpg" format. You will have to decide how long your letter should be, but the rule of thumb is, at least in the case of a cover letter, it should not be longer than one page. However, there are times when the nature of the matter you are writing about requires more details, in which case, you should write to satisfy context and clarity, by describing the issues involved. For example, a complaint letter involving a complex issue can be written in as many pages as you need to make your point. Here are some simple, but key, steps to writing a good letter:
1. Open with an introduction in which you state succinctly what your correspondence is about. This can be done in the first paragraph of the letter.
2. Start a new paragraph to transition into the body of your letter where you will give the details of your communication. You do not have give all of the details, but an adequate number of specific facts or examples, enough to provoke someone to follow up with you, if that is your goal, or to make your point final on the basis of facts.
3. Close your later with a concluding paragraph that lays out what you are looking for, and how you are prepared to move forward.
